Welcome to My Keto and Diabetes Reversal Journey

This is where I’ll share my journey, the latest research, and all the practical tips I’ve picked up to show you that reversing T2D is possible. I know because I did it.

Hey there, and welcome! If you’ve stumbled upon this blog, chances are you’re curious about the ketogenic diet, battling Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), or just really into reading about people who eat lots of bacon and call it science. Either way, you’re in the right place.

This is where I’ll be sharing my journey, the latest research, and all the practical tips I’ve picked up along the way. I’m not here to push a magic bullet or promise overnight results, but I am here to show you that reversing T2D is possible. I know because I did it.

The Family Curse: A Legacy of Diabetes

Let’s talk genetics. In my family, Type 2 Diabetes isn’t just common—it’s practically a rite of passage. My paternal grandparents both passed away due to complications from T2D-related heart disease. My father lived with diabetes for 25 years before eventually developing dementia, a heartbreaking connection that science is now starting to recognize. Studies suggest that diabetics may be up to 90% more likely to develop Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, which is sometimes called Type 3 Diabetes.

That was a wake-up call. Seeing my father’s decline—and knowing my uncles and brothers had all been diagnosed as well—made me realize that this wasn’t just something I could ignore. If I didn’t take action, I was on the same path.

My "Oh, Crap" Moment

For years, I knew I was at risk. I flirted with pre-diabetes, but I told myself I had time. Then, reality smacked me in the face in the form of an A1C test. I’d officially crossed the line into full-blown Type 2 Diabetes. My doctor hit me with the classic "it’s not terrible, but we should get that number down." I was also prescribed 1500mg of Metformin a day, which, fun fact, does nothing to address the root cause of diabetes—it just manages the symptoms.

That was my breaking point. I wasn’t going to just “manage” my way into a future of insulin dependence, nerve damage, and an increased risk of dementia. I needed a real solution.

The Keto Discovery (AKA, Forget Everything You Thought You Knew About Fat)

Like most people, I spent my life believing that a “healthy diet” meant avoiding fat like it was a toxic substance. Low-fat, high-carb was the golden rule. So, when I first heard about the ketogenic diet—a way of eating that was high in (the right kind of) fat and low in carbs—it sounded insane. But I was desperate, so I dove into the research.

And what I found blew my mind.

The keto diet isn’t just some trendy fad. It’s rooted in science. By significantly reducing carb intake, you can lower blood sugar levels, improve insulin sensitivity, and, in many cases, even reverse Type 2 Diabetes. So, I took the plunge.

The Results? Nothing Short of Life-Changing

Within six months, my A1C dropped from 7.6 to 6.2—right back into the normal range. I lost 10% of my body weight without starving myself or suffering through endless hours of cardio. My cholesterol plummeted by nearly 100 points. My doctor was thrilled. My wife—initially skeptical of my newfound love of olive oil—became my biggest supporter. And most importantly, I felt better than I had in years.

That was nearly about five years ago. Today, my A1C remains solidly in the normal range, and I have more energy than I did in my 30s. I’m living proof that you don’t have to accept diabetes as a life sentence.
